5 counties, cities in Taiwan to soar to scorching 36 degrees Celsius

台灣5縣市氣溫飆升至攝氏36度

Yellow heat hazard alert issued for 5 counties, cities in Taiwan as mercury set to climb to 36 degrees Celsius

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) has issued a yellow heat alert for five counties and cities in Taiwan as the mercury is set to soar to 36 degrees Celsius

The CWB website is flashing a yellow light for intense heat in Taipei City, New Taipei City, Pingtung County, Kaohsiung City, and Taitung County. A yellow light indicates the area affected could see maximum daily temperatures of up to 36 degrees.

The CWB said that the weather today will be stable, with most areas seeing sunny to partly cloudy skies and very little in the way of precipitation. Only northeastern Taiwan and mountainous areas of central and northern Taiwan may see sporadic scattered showers.

Due to increased southwest winds, daytime temperatures will be higher than yesterday and conditions will feel muggy. The greater Taipei basin, Kaohsiung, Pingtung, and Taitung will see temperatures soar to 36 degrees by noon.

The CWB reminds residents of areas affected by the heat advisory to stay hydrated and avoid excessive sun exposure. High temperatures across the rest of the country will range between 31 and 34 degrees.

The CWB predicts that skies will continue to be sunny to partly cloudy through Thursday (April 25), as southwest winds continue blow. Highs on Thursday are also expected to climb up to 36 degrees, but northeast winds will increase in the evening, bringing scattered showers to northern, northeastern, and eastern Taiwan.

As the northeast winds strengthen, temperatures will cool on Friday and Saturday, bringing scattered showers to northern and eastern Taiwan, as well as heavy downpours in some areas.
