Man arrested for threatening to wage war on Taiwan

Man arrested for threatening on Facebook to start a war with Taiwan

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- The Aviation Police Bureau has arrested a man and seized his computer for evidence after he threatened to wage war on Taiwan, reported CNA.

A Taiwanese netizen surnamed Chang (張) threatened to start a war on Taiwan in a closed Facebook group and that his tickets were ready. At 1 p.m. on Monday, (Dec. 10), the Aviation Police Bureau said it received a tip-off that a netizen surnamed Chang had posted the following message on the private Facebook group "LOSER Club:" "Going to wage war on all of Taiwan, plane tickets are ready, just waiting for the final trial to come."

On his Facebook page, Chang claims that he can make very small detinators, which are difficult to detect with the naked eye. He also claimed that these detonators can set off up to 13 kilograms of TNT explosives.

Police said that Chang, who they believed may have had explosives and modified firearms, was planning to fly out of Taiwan on Dec. 10 or 11, and they feared he may have posed a danger to flight safety.

In a press release issued last night, the Aviation Police Bureau said that in addition to notifying units to strengthen aviation security, the police immediately traced and pinpointed the actual identity of Chang. Police then apprehended Chang in Taipei's Songshan District.

During police questioning, Chang denied posting the message on the internet and consented to a search of his residence. Police did not find any explosives or firearms in Chang's home.

However, after inspecting Chang's computer, Aviation Police found that he had used the name (張紹中) to publish posts that threatened the public on the private Facebook group "LOSER Club." The whole case has been sent to the Taipei District Prosecutor's Office on suspicion of threatening and endangering public safety (恐嚇危害公眾安全罪嫌).
