Taiwan chip supplier plans Czech factory

| TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan Komico Technology is planning a NT$1.39 billion (US$44 million) factory in a Czech industrial park near Germany, adding another supplier-side project close to TSMC’s Dresden site.
The facility would handle cleaning and surface treatment for parts used in chip manufacturing at the Triangle Industrial Zone in Zatec, Usti nad Labem Region, per CNA. Regional lawmakers have cleared an agreement reserving 2.68 hectares for the company, which plans to lease the site first and later buy it. Construction is slated for this year and running to next year, and the plant could add up to 100 jobs, according to the report. The Czech site would mark parent company Mico Group’s first step into Europe. The South Korea-based group already has more than 10 production sites across Asia and the US. Usti nad Labem Region has also drawn i-TRANS Global, which said in May it was preparing a 20 million euro (NT$730 million) logistics hub for semiconductor chemicals, per the report. The logistics center would store and move chemicals and gases for ESMC and other semiconductor supply chain companies. The Czech investment agency expects projects from Taiwan to help attract raw material and service suppliers for chipmakers, while talks with several Taiwan companies continue. |
