Taiwan Police College addresses 94% acceptance rate
台灣警察專科學校錄取率高達94%
| TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan Police College said Sunday it would keep removing unsuitable cadets from training after criticism over a nearly 94% admission rate for male Group A applicants.
A Facebook page focused on firefighting issues said Saturday that 4,923 people applied this year and that the male Group A admission rate was close to 94%, leading the poster to say that applicants could get in even if they guessed “C” on every question, per CNA. The poster went on to claim that only 10% of applicants would pass years ago when they themselves took the exam. The poster said the number pointed to a precipitous drop in screening standards for people who may enter police and firefighting work in the coming years. It described the issue as broad and systemic. In response, the college said applicant numbers and willingness to enroll are affected by social change and factors outside its control, such as Taiwan’s falling birthrate. It said its role begins after enrollment, when students undergo two years of preparation for police, firefighting, or coast guard work, according to the report. The school said it evaluates student discipline through round-the-clock campus management and maintains a process for removing those who are unfit to continue. It said more than 80% of instructors have field experience, and digital forensics courses now cover areas like generative AI and blockchain tracing, per the report. Taiwan Police College said it also uses scenario-based drilling, mock exams, and remedial classes. Graduates must still pass national exams before receiving civil servant appointment qualifications, the college said. |
