Taiwan travelers keep flying despite high airfares
儘管機票價格高昂,台灣旅客仍堅持搭飛機出國。
| TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwanese travelers continue to head abroad despite high airfares linked to conflicts in the Middle East.
The Tourism Administration said outbound travel from Taiwan totaled 7.12 million trips from January to April, a 19.3% year-on-year increase, per CNA. Sales figures from travel agencies also show that high ticket prices have not discouraged outbound travel. Lion Travel said in a statement Thursday that ticket sales from January to May grew 30% year-on-year, while the number of tickets issued surged by nearly 50%, according to CNA. Travel to Northeast Asia in particular more than doubled. Lion Travel noted that as oil prices ease, fuel surcharges have decreased in June. In addition, Starlux Airlines has been launching new routes to Busan, Prague, and Bali, increasing market supply and boosting travel demand for the second half of the year, it said. To meet peak travel demand during upcoming holidays such as Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, Lion Travel said it has partnered with Starlux Airlines to roll out promotional deals, offering flight discounts of up to 30% for routes from Taipei and Taichung to 41 international destinations. The company expects ticket issuance to more than double as a result. KKday said searches for summer travel products in May rose 15% from April, while bookings increased 5% year-on-year, CNA reported. KKday said it has launched a series of promotional campaigns offering travel credits through the end of June. The online travel agency added that travel patterns have become increasingly diverse in recent years, with short getaways, solo group tours, themed experiences, and frequent international travel becoming the norm, according to CNA. The fastest-growing categories for summer bookings include eSIM services, transportation passes, theme parks, day tours, and private car transfers. |
