Taiwan's Thunder Tiger showcases tech at German drone expo
台灣雷虎無人機公司在德國無人機展上展示其技術
| TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taichung-based Thunder Tiger is showcasing its technologies at Xponential Europe in Germany, including drones, unmanned vessels, fiber-optic transmission systems, and AI-powered swarm control technology, UDN reported.
The three-day event, running through Thursday, features unmanned vehicles, robotics, and automation technologies. This year, 360 exhibitors from 43 countries are participating with a focus on drone technologies for national defense. Amid global supply chain reshuffling and geopolitical shifts, a China-free drone supply chain has become a key focus for buyers at this year’s expo. Thunder Tiger said its drones and unmanned boats contain no Chinese components and increasingly use Taiwan-made parts to secure orders from democratic allies. At the event, the company is showcasing its first-person view drone, Overkill. The UAV was added to the US Blue UAS Cleared List in September, marking the first time a Taiwanese drone maker has received this cybersecurity and military-grade certification. Inclusion on the list indicates the drone has passed security, supply chain, and performance checks — allowing US military and government agencies to buy it without extra approvals. The company said it has integrated fiber-optic technology into the Overkill drone, enabling stable transmission up to 20 km. It noted that fiber optics can significantly reduce electromagnetic interference, minimizing electronic disruption on the battlefield and ensuring stable signal transmission. Thunder Tiger also unveiled its AI-powered system for controlling swarms of Overkill UAVs. The system enables drones to carry out reconnaissance and attack missions autonomously. The company said drone swarms are a key tool in asymmetric warfare. It noted that Ukraine, facing heavy GPS interference from Russian forces, has used US-made AI-controlled drone swarms for autonomous reconnaissance and attacks. Also on display is Thunder Tiger’s SeaShark series USVs. The boats can carry explosives and feature stealth capabilities, intelligent target recognition, and the ability to operate in coordinated groups. In December, the company successfully controlled six SeaShark USVs at once during a test. The boats held formation and could quickly spread out or regroup when simulating an enemy encounter. Thunder Tiger added that it will boost the partnership with the Ministry of National Defense and the National Chung Shan Institute of Science and Technology to test its UAVs and USVs, adjusting their capabilities to meet military requirements. |
