Taiwan’s 'King of Mandopop' Jay Chou releases 1st new album in 4 years
台灣「華語流行音樂之王」周杰倫時隔四年發行首張新專輯
| TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s “King of Mandopop,” Jay Chou (周杰倫), released his first album in four years, “Children of the Sun," on digital platforms Wednesday, with the physical album to follow on April 10.
At the premiere of the album’s title track music video on Tuesday, Chou also revealed that his “Carnival II World Tour” will feature a “one city, one theme” concept, and the final stop of the tour may return to Taiwan, per Newtalk. “It’s a complete tour, so stay tuned!” he said. Chou last performed in Taipei in December 2024 at the Taipei Arena, sparking a nationwide “Chou-mania” craze. The new album’s title track, “Children of the Sun,” garnered more than 2 million views within 20 hours of its music video release. The Carnival II tour is set to kick off in Hangzhou on April 3, with rehearsals already underway. When asked whether the tour might return to Taiwan, Chou said, “Concert tours usually run for two to three years, and eventually I may return to Taiwan.” Ten years ago, Chou held a street-closing album signing in Taipei's Ximending area for his 14th studio album “Jay Chou’s Bedtime Stories,” drawing massive crowds of fans. Asked whether he would hold a signing event in Taiwan this time, he joked, “If I use the time I usually spend playing tennis, maybe I could consider it. Holding an autograph session at a tennis court would be fun!” |
