Taiwan's Coretronic showcases tech at German drone expo
台灣中光電(Coretronic)在德國無人機展展示其技術
| TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Hsinchu-based Coretronic is showcasing its drone technologies at Xponential Europe in Germany, including sensing solutions and AI-powered image analysis cameras.
The three-day event, running through Thursday, features unmanned vehicles, robotics, and automation technologies. This year, 360 exhibitors from 43 countries are participating with a focus on drone technologies for national defense. The company said it is displaying products that integrate cameras and sensors, with a lightweight design, a high-strength structure to handle stress, and image stabilization. It said its products are critical in drone operations, per CNA. Coretronic provides cameras for small multi-rotor drones that support image recognition and wide-area monitoring. The company said video feeds can be quickly analyzed using an AI-powered system for target identification and mission assessment. The company has also developed cameras for fixed-wing drones designed for high-speed flight, providing stable images and a wide field of view. The cameras can continuously monitor areas and collect data, making them ideal for infrastructure inspections and environmental surveillance, the company said. To enhance drone system performance, Coretronic has continued to use AI technology to improve image analysis. Meanwhile, the company integrates multiple sensor technologies to help cameras on UAVs maintain stable and accurate recognition. The government plans to purchase 200,000 drones between this year and 2033. Coretronic said it is competing for the deal and expects its drone segment to account for a larger share of revenue than last year, when it made up 5% of total sales. In 2024, the company won a military drone contract from the Ministry of National Defense for 3,037 units, valued at NT$2.2 billion (US$63.7 million). Deliveries were completed by the end of last year. Coretronic added that it is building a China-free drone supply chain and developing its own software and hardware to avoid potential cybersecurity risks from Chinese components. The company hopes to use this advantage to expand its global presence. |
