Taipei Grand Hotel targeted in cyber attack
台北圓山大飯店遭網路攻擊
| TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Computer systems at the Taipei Grand Hotel were compromised in a cybersecurity incident that happened over the Lunar New Year holiday.
Staff at the Grand Hotel discovered anomalies on its network on Feb. 17, which prompted them to consult with cybersecurity professionals. After an initial investigation, the Grand Hotel announced that private systems were accessed by a third party without authorization, reported UDN. In response to the hack, the Grand Hotel shut down its computer networks to initiate a comprehensive digital forensic analysis. The extent of the intrusion is still unclear, and an investigation is ongoing. The hotel has requested that the Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau conduct its own investigation since the incident may have national security implications. The Grand Hotel acknowledged that some customer data may have been compromised. The company expressed its sincere apology to the public and customers who may be negatively impacted by data theft, per UDN. Out of an abundance of caution, it urged recent guests or those with upcoming bookings to verify any communications or online messages purporting to be from the Grand Hotel. If an email or text message seems suspicious, report it to the hotel through official channels and do not provide any sensitive information to dubious accounts. The Grand Hotel is currently operating normally and providing all regular services to guests and members. The hotel pledged a complete internal review of its information management systems and practices, and to strengthen cybersecurity protection mechanisms in the future. |
