台灣首支女子雪橇隊完成奧運旅程
| TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s first two-woman bobsled team completed its Olympic campaign Sunday at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, finishing 25th overall.
Taiwanese competitors Lin Sin-rong (林欣蓉) and Lin Sung-en (林頌恩) recorded a time of 59.03 seconds in their third run. Their combined time across three separate runs was 2:56.77. Only the top 20 teams advanced to the fourth and final run. In the two-woman event, the team struggled in its first and second runs, with mistakes affecting performance. Earlier, Lin Sin-rong competed in the women’s monobob event and narrowly missed advancing to the final run by 0.08 seconds. Speaking before the third run, Lin said her goal was to complete the course safely and smoothly while aiming for her best time. “Unfortunately, we fell just short, but completing this first Winter Olympics has been a valuable experience,” she said. The gold medal in two-woman bobsled went to the German pair of Laura Nolte and Deborah Levi, who successfully defended their title with a combined time of 3:48.46 across four runs. Taiwan’s only remaining athlete at the Olympics, Sophia Velicer, also known as Yu Rui (余睿), will compete in the women’s 50-kilometer mass start cross-country skiing event at 5 p.m. Sunday. It will be her fourth event of the Olympics. The closing ceremony of the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics is scheduled for Monday at 3:30 a.m. Taiwan time. Taiwan’s Olympic delegation will be led by team leader Lin Ting-fang (林廷芳) and include flag bearer Sophia Velicer and the women’s bobsled team. |
