Kaohsiung Lotus Pond completes waterfront renovations
高雄蓮池潭風景區改造工程完工
| TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — After almost five years of projects to improve the landscape and public facilities around Kaohsiung’s Lotus Pond, the city announced that work is finally complete.
The Kaohsiung Tourism Bureau shared an announcement on social media this weekend, inviting visitors to enjoy the newly upgraded Lotus Pond scenic area. In recent years, the city has spent over NT$127 million (US$4 million) to enhance the pond’s waterfront ecology and increase accessibility, reported UDN. The Lotus Pond and its iconic twin pagodas are famous landmarks in southern Taiwan. Located conveniently near Kaohsiung’s Zuoying High Speed Rail Station, it is an easily accessible tourist destination. One recent landscape project connected the surrounding trails to make it easier for visitors to walk completely around the pond, while enjoying a waterfront view. Visitors strolling around the park can now enjoy easy access to the Confucian temple and the twin pagodas. Previously, members of the community complained that the north and south trail portions did not completely encircle the pond, forcing many to retrace their steps or take a detour via Liantan Road. In response, the city designated the area between the trails for a recreation area with an accessible walkway to make the scenic area more inviting to tourists, per UDN. There is also a new souvenir shop where guests can purchase gifts. The city is also hoping to attract thrill seekers with a water sports pavilion, where guests can enjoy water skiing activities. The city reportedly plans to continue investing funds to further enhance ecological attractions in the area. |
