| TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s average monthly wage rose 3.09% year-on-year in 2025, outpacing inflation and marking the fastest growth in 26 years, according to data released Wednesday by the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics.
The DGBAS said minimum wage increases helped lift the average monthly salary to NT$47,884 (US$1,512), per UDN. Tan Wen-ling (譚文玲), deputy director of the DGBAS Census Department, said last year’s consumer price index grew 1.66%. After adjusting for inflation, the average annual growth rate of real regular wages was 1.4%, the highest in nearly five years. Despite the gains, wage growth was uneven. The percentage of employees earning less than the average NT$47,884 rose to 70% last year, the highest level in six years, indicating disparities across sectors. Average annual aggregate earnings, regular wages together with overtime pay and bonuses, reached NT$760,632 in 2025, up 3.91% from a year earlier. After adjusting for inflation, real total wage growth reached 2.21%, the highest in seven years. Overtime hours also reflected last year’s economic conditions, with a significant portion of wage growth stemming from overtime pay. DGBAS data showed average monthly overtime hours in the manufacturing sector reached 17.2 hours, the highest level in nearly 15 years. AI-related electronic component manufacturers logged an average of 27.9 overtime hours per month, up 3.4 hours from a year earlier, and the highest level recorded since 1980. However, DGBAS officials said industry performance varied widely. While some manufacturing segments benefited from the AI boom, traditional industries faced global overcapacity, leading to wage declines in certain sectors. |
