Taiwan’s J&B International to expand operations with new Vietnam factory

| TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — New Taipei-based fabric maker J&B International will build a new factory in Vietnam in the first half of this year as part of its expansion, following a partnership with a local contract manufacturer.
J&B said the new factory will be built jointly with Wah Yang International Holdings and is estimated to cost about NT$230 million (US$7.3 million), per CNA. In October, the company also established a subsidiary, J&B Textile Vietnam, in the country. The factory will focus on producing lightweight, elastic fabrics and will also include dyeing facilities. The company said the new facility is expected to strengthen its supply chain in Southeast Asia. The company noted nylon supply in Vietnam remains limited. In response, it has teamed up with a local yarn supplier to secure nylon, which could be used to make high-end functional fabrics. J&B reported January revenue of NT$112 million, down 18.11% year on year, mainly due to delays in the shipment of some orders. The company said orders for sportswear fabrics continue to increase, with major clients including Nike, Under Armour, and Lululemon. It is optimistic about its revenue outlook for this year. Nike has partnered with US apparel brand Skims to launch a new women’s activewear brand, NikeSkims. J&B, a key fabric supplier for the line, is set to begin shipments to the brand this year. The company said it has worked with clients to develop new functional fabrics for outdoor use, including stretch, quick-drying, and water-repellent materials. It has also partnered with snowboard brand Burton to develop fabrics for skiwear. The sportswear fabrics business accounts for about 60% of the company’s revenue. Sales of sportswear fabrics have set records for three consecutive years. The company expects this year’s Winter Olympics, World Cup, and World Baseball Classic to boost sportswear sales. |
