Taiwan’s TSMC to hold board meeting in Kumamoto

| TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — TSMC’s board will meet in Kumamoto, Japan, on Monday to discuss potential 3 nm expansion as demand for advanced chips accelerates.
The two-day meeting marks the first time TSMC’s board will convene in Kumamoto, where the company is building major production facilities, per CNA. Directors are expected to decide on Q4 2025 dividends and capital spending plans, per TechNews. TSMC has increasingly held board meetings at key operating sites at home and abroad to give directors a closer look at its business. The board met in Arizona for the first time last year. Attention to the meeting intensified after TSMC Chair and CEO C.C. Wei (魏哲家) met Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae on Thursday. Wei said TSMC is assessing whether to introduce 3 nm technology at its second Kumamoto wafer fab to meet surging demand driven by AI. Beyond routine agenda items, the board is expected to discuss investment plans for the Kumamoto fabs and adjustments to process technologies. Any move toward more advanced nodes in Japan would signal deeper long-term commitments by TSMC, CNA reported. The company reported net profit attributable to shareholders of NT$505.74 billion (US$16 billion) in Q4 2025, a record high, with earnings per share of NT$19.50. Investors are watching to see whether TSMC raises its cash dividend above the NT$6 per share paid for Q3, a key issue for its nearly two million shareholders. To meet strong customer demand, TSMC has set a capital spending range of NT$1.64 trillion to NT$1.77 trillion, and the board is expected to approve the plan to expand advanced and specialty chip capacity. |
