Tainan first military dependents’ village fair draws over 300,000 visitors
台南首屆眷村市集吸引超過30萬遊客
| TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tainan hosted its first military dependents’ village Lunar New Year fair in Yongkang District from Jan. 23-25, drawing more than 300,000 visitors, the city government said Monday.
The city government said the fair marked the city’s first Lunar New Year market centered on military village culture, a history tied to communities built for military families. Officials said steady crowds turned out to shop, eat, and soak up the festive atmosphere. “The event helped bring military village traditions back into public view,” Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) said, according to Liberty Times. He said the strong turnout showed that both the culture and holiday markets continue to resonate with people of all ages. Economic Development Bureau Director Chang Ting-yuan (張婷媛) said more than 100 stalls were set up, including dozens selling New Year goods, per Yahoo News. She said visitors bought spring couplets, festive decorations, snacks, and gift items, allowing many to complete their holiday shopping in one stop. Tainan Times reported that the fair also featured traditional children’s games and hands-on activities enjoyed by families together. Organizers said the mix helped keep the market lively and encouraged spending throughout the three-day event. Lin Shih-chun (林士群), acting director of the city’s Market Administration Office, said the city provided full safety, medical, and service support to ensure smooth operations. He said service counters handled nearly 100 inquiries, with staff and volunteers working together to maintain order and assist visitors. |
