| TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan International Ports Corp announced on Tuesday that the Port of Kaohsiung ranked among the world’s top 10 container ports.
The state-owned firm said its revenue reached a record high of NT$23.53 billion (US$745.1 million) last year, per Liberty Times. International cruise ships made 567 port calls, carrying about 1.16 million passengers, surpassing pre-pandemic levels. The company noted that the Port of Kaohsiung placed ninth in DNV’s “The Leading Container Ports of the World 2025.” The report evaluated 160 ports using 35 indicators grouped into five categories: enablers, connectivity and customer value, productivity, sustainability, and overall impact. The port stands out from its Chinese counterparts by “its strategic proximity to Taiwan’s manufacturing centres, superior infrastructure, and transparent governance frameworks.” It added that Kaohsiung’s primacy in productivity is founded on advanced cargo-handling capabilities, terminal automation, and effective workforce management. The company said it completed 18 major investment projects last year, attracting roughly NT$8.9 billion in private investment across container shipping, offshore wind, green energy, and logistics sectors. Looking ahead, the company said it will improve external transport links and port infrastructure, enhance cruise and harbor tourism services, expand smart operations and AI applications, and advance its port development initiative. |
