Team Taiwan has strong showing at World Police and Fire Games in US
台灣隊在美國世界警察和消防員運動會上表現突出
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwanese firefighters had their best performance in the Ultimate Firefighter team category on June 28 and 29 at the World Police & Fire Games in Birmingham, Alabama.
In the Ultimate Firefighter challenge, athletes must wear 10 kg of gear, carry a 20 kg hose pack up a five-story tower, smash through a simulated door with a sledgehammer, perform a precision water spray, and drag an 80 kg dummy across the finish line, per CNA. The entire course must be completed in under six minutes. The National Fire Agency said the US team had a strong home-field advantage. Any failure to complete a segment results in immediate disqualification, making the event a high-pressure test of physical endurance and firefighting skill. Taiwan’s team captured gold in the men’s over-35 division and won world and regional titles. The team included Huang Shun-sheng (黃順生), Chien Cheng-jui (錢正叡), Chang Wen-tsung (張溫宗), and Chang Ying-hsi (張英熙), all competing in their first games. Taiwan also earned bronze in the men’s over-18 category and silver in the women’s over-18 group. It marked the first time that female Taiwanese firefighters won a medal in an international firefighting competition. The NFA said Taiwan’s success was built on daily professional training and extensive real-world experience. Their performance set a new milestone for Taiwan’s firefighting community on the global stage. |
