Central Bank's NT$1,600 coin limited to 36,000 pieces
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s Central Bank on Monday opened pre-orders for a limited edition silver coin commemorating Taiwan’s victory in the 2024 WBSC Premier12 baseball tournament. Priced at NT$1,600 (US$54), the coin celebrates Taiwan’s national team, which clinched the championship title on Nov. 24. A total of 36,000 coins will be issued. Each has a face value of NT$50 and contains half a troy ounce of 99.9% silver, per CNA. Pre-orders will be accepted between June 24 and July 2 through two channels: online via a dedicated pre-order website, or in person at any full-service Bank of Taiwan branch during business hours. No over-the-counter sales will be permitted after the pre-order period ends. Each individual is limited to one coin. If demand exceeds supply, a computerized lottery will be held on July 3 to determine successful applicants. The coin’s obverse features a scene of players lifting the championship trophy. The reverse includes imagery representing pitching, batting, and fielding—capturing the spirit of baseball. Buyers who complete payment will collect their coins in November from the Bank of Taiwan branch selected during registration. The Central Bank will announce the specific pick-up date at a later time. Further details and instructions for online registration are available on the pre-order system website. |
