Water slides, outdoor markets, and artistic performances scheduled for three-day holiday
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Kaohsiung City Government will host the annual Dragon Boat Festival beginning on Friday, with new areas offering activities such as water slides, outdoor markets, and performances along the Love River. Kaohsiung is one of the few cities in Taiwan that holds nighttime dragon boat races. Visitors will also be treated to an auspicious dragon lantern sponsored by Fo Guang Shan, which lights up and breathes smoke for 10 minutes beginning at 5:50 p.m. and 8 p.m. from Friday to Sunday, per CNA. The Paper Windmill Theater will also perform the 30-minute play, "Deep Sea Fish Theater," at a plaza within the nearby 228 Peace Memorial Park beginning at 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. There will be a parent-child activity area allowing for water-based activities such as dragon boats, standup paddleboards, and canoes. More information is available at the Kaohsiung Sports Development Bureau's Facebook page. Kaohsiung Sports Development Bureau Director Hou Tsun-yao (侯尊堯) welcomed the public to join the weekend's festivities, which include musical performances ranging from rock to pop music, and visits by celebrities and sports figures. The public is encouraged to take public transportation to avoid traffic and limited parking. In addition, Hedong Road will host a traditional outdoor market with stalls operating from noon to 10 p.m., and nearby Hexi Road will have a market featuring handmade cultural and creative goods from 2 to 10 p.m. throughout the days of the festival. |
