Former president will speak at events in Lithuania and Denmark
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Former President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) will travel to Europe on Friday for speaking engagements. Tsai will head to Lithuania and Denmark, CNA reported. She was invited to visit Lithuania by former Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite, according to her office spokesperson Tsai Shu-ching (蔡舒景). Aside from visiting friends, Tsai will deliver a speech at Vilnius University and hold a dialogue with Grybauskaite. Tsai aims to highlight Taiwan and Lithuania’s common values of democracy, freedom, and human rights, Tsai Shu-ching said. The former president also hoped that, with joint efforts, both nations could continue to strengthen their democratic and economic resilience, Tsai Shu-ching added. Next, Tsai will head to Copenhagen, at the invitation of the Alliance of Democracies, to speak at the eighth Copenhagen Democracy Summit. She is expected to reaffirm Taiwan’s commitment to cooperation with democratic allies in ensuring Indo-Pacific security and stability and thank the summit for its long-standing support for Taiwan. Tsai Shu-ching said this year’s summit lasts from May 13-14 and invites country leaders, tech industry figures, think tanks, civil society groups, and Hong Kong activists to voice support for freedom and democracy. |
