NT$40 million initiative to train 50,000 professionals over 4 years
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The economics ministry announced Tuesday a new AI training initiative targeting the service sector’s digital transformation. The program, launched by the ministry’s Administration of Commerce, is in response to a tenfold spike in AI job demand—from under 800 openings in early 2023 to more than 9,600 by year-end, per a press release. NT$40 million (US$1.32 million) will be allocated for the first year, with the ministry expecting 8,000 professionals trained by the end of the year, per CNA. Courses are divided by skill level and job function, ranging from executive leadership and corporate training to foundational workshops. The program includes live-streamed and hands-on sessions to ensure workplace applicability. Administration of Commerce Director General Su Wen-ling (蘇文玲) noted the program’s flexible learning methods and measurable outcomes. The initiative also offers customized corporate classes to help businesses strengthen employees’ AI capabilities. The department said this year’s training goals include 200 participants for the CEO class, 4,000 for the basic practical class, 2,000 for the hands-on application class, and 60 for the intermediate class due to its longer hours. As of May, over 1,100 trainees have completed the foundational practical course, and 441 have finished the application course, with other classes still open for enrollment. The ministry aims to expand the program to train 50,000 AI professionals over the next four years. |
