中華電信 HiNet 迎來台灣網路服務 30 週年
Company promotes internet access and builds fiber-optic network to improve data transmission
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Chunghwa Telecom said that its HiNet internet service has been operating in Taiwan for 30 years, CNA reported. Chunghwa Telecom held a seminar on internet and AI applications on Tuesday. Alex Chien (簡志誠), the company's chair, attended the event and said that its network infrastructure advanced from copper cables to fiber optics, with fiber reaching 90% of internet users in Taiwan. Chien said the company's internet transmission speeds have progressed from Kbps to Mbps and now Gbps. He added that even faster services are being developed. The company has integrated its submarine cables, fiber-optic infrastructure, mobile networks, and satellites into a "sea-to-sky" network. Chien said the company will expand its fiber network to meet increasing user demand for high-speed data transmission. In March, the company teamed up with Ericsson to create a digital twin of a base station using drones and 3D modeling. The technology allows base stations to adjust network resources automatically and increase network capacity by nearly 14%. The company also integrated AI to launch a suite of smart services, including Hami Video, its live streaming platform, and cybersecurity products, Chien said. He added that these initiatives aim to upgrade the company’s services and enhance network security. Deputy Minister of Digital Affairs Yeh Ning (葉寧) also attended the seminar and praised Chunghwa Telecom for expanding internet access and digital inclusion. She highlighted the company's installation of a base station on Taiping Island last April, which boosted local internet transmission speeds to 25 Mbps and provided connectivity for personnel stationed there. Chunghwa Telecom reported revenues of NT$230 billion (US$6.97 billion) last year, with a pre-tax net profit of nearly NT$47.8 billion. The company added that it had 13.12 million mobile subscribers and 4.43 million internet customers in Taiwan. |
