Largest annual religious procession in Taiwan to set off from Jenn Lann Temple
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Dajia Matsu Pilgrimage, the largest annual religious procession in Taiwan, will begin in Taichung on April 4 at 10:45 p.m. For Lantern Festival a divination ceremony was held at Jenn Lann Temple, per CNA. Temple Chair Yen Ching-piao (顏清標) cast two crescent-shaped red blocks, known as divination blocks, in front of the statue of Matsu to seek guidance on the date and time for this year’s procession. The procession will depart from Jenn Lann Temple in Taichung, stopping at temples in Taichung, Changhua, Yunlin, and Chiayi. The procession ends on April 13. Dajia Matsu Pilgrimage is a nine-day procession that honors the sea goddess Matsu. During the festival, the Matsu statue of the Jenn Lann Temple is placed in a litter and carried on the shoulders of worshipers. Followers make offerings, light firecrackers, and kneel in the road while the palanquin passes above them. |
