台灣 EX-亞洲劇團 在印度 Bharat Rang Mahotsav 演出
Inspired by Indian epic Mahabharata, 'Karna' explores themes of loyalty and honor
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s EX-Theatre Asia will perform “Karna” at India’s Bharat Rang Mahotsav theater festival on Tuesday and Thursday. “Karna,” inspired by the character from the Indian epic Mahabharata, is directed by Chongtham Jayanta Meetei. Meetei, an Indian immigrant who has lived in Taiwan for nearly 20 years, collaborates with Taiwanese artist Chao Hsin (兆欣) and other artists from both Taiwan and India, per CNA. The play combines cross-cultural elements with contemporary theater. The performances at Bharat Rang Mahotsav, India’s largest international theater festival, will strengthen cultural ties between Taiwan and India, the Ministry of Culture said. The play was staged at the Kamani Auditorium in Delhi on Tuesday and will be performed at the Rajasthan International Center in Jaipur on Thursday. Karna, a tragic and complex character from the Mahabharata, was born to Princess Kunti and the sun god Surya but was abandoned at birth. Raised by a charioteer family, he faced discrimination despite his noble birth, according to Opentix. Karna became a skilled archer and scholar. He formed a bond with Duryodhana, the prince of the Kaurava clan, despite Duryodhana’s flaws. During the Kurukshetra War, Karna exhibited courage as the Kaurava leader. On the 17th day of battle, Karna was killed by Arjuna after his chariot got stuck in the mud. Karna died heroically, with his soul merging with the sun god. He became a symbol of loyalty and honor. |
