Taiwan high-speed rail continues buy 1, get 1 free ticket deal until year end

Tourism Administration wants more Japanese students and business travelers
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The program to hand individual travelers free high-speed rail tickets will continue until the end of the year to attract foreign visitors to central and south Taiwan, the Tourism Administration said Wednesday. Short-term visitors from overseas who buy a high-speed train ticket to Taichung or a station further south can have a companion travel the same route for free. Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation launched the formula in September. The country hopes for 10 million foreign visitors this year, even though it failed to reach a similar target last year, when almost 8 million travelers arrived. Apart from North America, the Tourism Administration said it would focus on young people from Japan, per CNA. A separate program, dubbed “Taiwan, the Lucky Land” gives individual travelers the chance to win NT$5,000 (US$152) after they arrive at the airport. The promotion will finish at the end of June, according to the Tourism Administration. The government department also wants business travelers to stay in Taiwan and travel around after attending conferences or trade fairs. Another idea under consideration is to organize a coffee festival from June to September. The Tourism Administration also hopes for a return of international airline services to pre-COVID levels, while a tourism service center is set to open in Rome next year. Tour groups from Southeast Asia will also be encouraged to fly into Taiwan via Kaohsiung to promote tourism in the south. |
