High school students win championship and runner-up titles at FIRST Tech Challenge
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwanese high school students won the championship and runner-up titles at the FIRST Tech Challenge in Lithuania over the weekend. Two teams of students from three Taiwanese schools, including Sacred Hearts High School in Yunlin, Concordia Middle and High School in Chiayi, and National Beimen Senior High School in Tainan, participated in the event. They also engaged with students from Lithuania and Ukraine, per CNA. FIRST is a global nonprofit that promotes science education through robotics competitions. It offers various programs for young individuals aged four to 18. Students aged 12 to 18 were eligible to compete. Participants designed, built, and operated robots to complete challenges, such as moving plastic blocks within a 2.5-minute limit. Participants also presented their robot designs to judges and collaborated with other teams to accomplish the assigned task. Algirdas Augustaitis, the event organizer, said this was the first year non-European teams were invited. The exchange was made possible with support from the Taiwanese Representative Office in Lithuania. Taiwan Representative to Lithuania Constance Wang (王雪虹) said the event provided science learning experiences and opportunities for participants to make international friends. She pledged her office's continued support for international exchange opportunities for Taiwanese students. The students who competed in Lithuania will also travel to Houston in April for the FIRST Robotics Competition. Taipei First Girls High School students received recognition from judges at the FIRST Robotics Competition in Houston in April. |
