Winning giant cabbage tips the scales at an incredible 11.46 kg
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Penghu’s Wukan Village held its 9th Cabbage King competition on Sunday, with 32 farmers bringing their giant cabbages to the local community center for judging. Wukan Village is well known for growing giant cabbages that are not only huge in size but also famous for their excellent quality. Penghu County Magistrate Chen Kuang-fu (陳光復) said Wukan’s giant cabbage is the pride of Penghu agriculture, CNA reported. Chen said the event not only showcases the dedication of local farmers but also boosts their morale and creates more opportunities for communication and exchange. He expressed hope that the competition would continue to grow and expand, potentially attracting young people to start growing giant cabbages. Chen added that Wukan’s giant cabbages are cultivated naturally and benefit from Penghu’s unique soil and abundant water sources. The cabbages are sweet in taste, crisp, and have a tender texture. The cabbages are popular in markets across Taiwan and have become a representative crop of Penghu. Wukan Village also processes cabbage into various products such as pickled cabbage, fried cabbage, and pickled cabbage meat buns. |
