Taiwan drone registrations top 38,000
台灣無人機登記數量突破38,000架
90% of nation’s drones used for aerial photography
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Civil Aviation Administration said Wednesday that Taiwan's registered drones have surpassed 38,000 as of Nov. 30. The administration held a seminar about drones on Wednesday to share experience of drone management. The administration said nearly 90% of Taiwan's drones are used for aerial photography, while others are employed for environmental monitoring and agricultural applications, per CNA. The administration said Taiwan had around 46,000 registered drones as of June 30. The two-year validity and some individuals not reapplying contributed to the decline in drone usage, the administration added. Civil Aviation Administration Director-General Ho Shu-ping (何淑萍) said that new drone management policies will include increased drone inspections, information security, and flight safety measures. Ho said the minimum age for a drone operation certificate has been lowered from 16 to 14. Teenagers with the certificate must be supervised by a professional when operating a drone, Ho reminded. During the seminar, participants also inquired about drone-related issues such as drone airspace maps, no-fly zones, and drone pesticide spraying areas. The administration pledged to coordinate with manufacturers and hopes relevant departments will help promote the new policies. |
