Total was 13% higher than before the pandemic
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The Transit passenger volume at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport reached a record of 6.37 million in 2023, with figures for this year totaling 6.25 million by the end of November, reports said Wednesday. The number for 2023 amounted to a 13% increase over the period before the COVID-19 pandemic, per CNA. In 2019, Taoyuan Airport handled 48.68 million travelers, including 5.64 million transit passengers, with some entering the country for a short stopover. The daily average of transit passengers amounted to 15,470, or 11% of the total number of travelers. Following the reopening of the country after the end of the pandemic, the daily average rose to 17,460, or 18% of the total number of travelers passing through the airport. Looking toward the future, the Ministry of Transportation said it hoped the location of the upcoming Lantern Festival in Taoyuan would attract visitors, including transit passengers. Daytime and evening tours using the Airport Mass Rapid Transit system would take travelers to the festival to introduce Taiwanese culture, officials said. |
