Kairos-2 experienced issues during ascent, Space One reports
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Japan’s Space One Kairos-2 rocket carrying a Taiwan payload failed its ascent to orbit on Wednesday. Launched at 11 am in Kushimoto, Wakayama Prefecture, the rocket carried five small satellites, including Taiwan Space Agency’s Parus-T1A, per Reuters. Kairos-2 was scheduled to release its satellites into orbit 50 minutes after launch, but experienced issues during ascent, per NHK. According to Space One, the rocket completed its payload separation, but the company determined that the mission would have problems and aborted the flight. Kairos-2 is approximately 18 meters long and weighs about 23 metric tons, per CNA. It is Japan’s first rocket with autonomous flight safety functions. Wednesday’s failure marks the second following Kairos-2’s first launch in March, per AP News. The company said it is investigating the matter. |
