TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — National Science and Technology Council Chair Wu Cheng-wen (吳誠文) said Monday (Dec. 2) that a new rocket test site will be announced in March next year. Speaking at Taiwan International Assembly of Space Science, Technology, and Industry (TASTI), Wu said the candidates were Nantian Village in Daren Township, Taitung County, and Jiupeng Village in Manzhou Township, Pingtung County, per CNA. Wu said Taiwan has strong semiconductor and electronics manufacturing technology. He added Taiwan is willing to cooperate with countries in space tech and become an important partner in the satellite supply chain. This includes not only semiconductors and IC design but also satellite hardware design and ground station equipment, Wu explained. The National Space Technology Development Long-Development Program phase three is expected to invest NT$25.1 billion (US$768 million) over 10 years and will be implemented from 2019-2028.
