TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Taipei City Government launched the "2024 Taipei Christmas Infinite Love" series of activities, unveiling themed Christmas trees and decorations in Gongguan and Yongkang districts. Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) lit the Christmas tree on Sunday (Nov. 30) at Daan Forest Park. This year’s design features a stack of Christmas gifts, per a press release. The nine-meter-high Christmas tree was built by Taipei Metro and is expected to become a popular attraction for parents and children to take pictures. Chiang said decorations were also set up along Xinsheng South Road to Gongguan Business and Taipei Water Park. Chiang said the city’s Christmas activities have been upgraded in scale and diversity. For example, a grand outdoor Christmas concert is planned for Dec. 14 at Daan Forest Park, inviting well-known singers such as Wang Hong-en (王宏恩) and Johnny Yin (殷正洋), and choral groups to perform folk songs and Christmas carols. Chiang also expressed gratitude to local business districts, church groups, and city legislators for their support in creating a festival atmosphere. Chiang said the Christmas decorations will light up the the city. The Christmas lights will be on view every evening until Jan. 1. In addition to making the city more colorful, 140 stores are participating in a promotion that includes a lucky draw for anyone who spends NT$100 (US$3), with the chance to win an Apple Watch, AirPods Pro, or supermarket vouchers. |
