Video streaming app Max launches in Taiwan

Warner Bros. Discovery platform enters market led by Netflix and YouTube Premium
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. launched the video streaming service Max in Taiwan on Tuesday (Nov. 19). The company said subscriptions to the service in Taiwan are available via the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, and as part of certain Taiwan Mobile plans. Max will offer titles from HBO, Warner Bros., DC, and other networks. In addition to Taiwan, the service was launched in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Hong Kong. Warner Bros. said it plans to expand the service in “many more markets” in 2025 and 2026. Subscriptions to Max are priced between NT$150 (US$4.63) and NT$299 per month. This is compared to the average of NT$274 that Taiwanese spend on streaming service subscriptions per month, according to a 2023 government think tank study. Netflix had the most subscribers in Taiwan according to the study, with 63% of streaming service customers paying to use the platform. This was followed by YouTube Premium with 41%, Disney+ with 28%, LINE TV with 23%, and other smaller local platforms. |
