Tourism bureau says arrivals nearly 97% of 2019 figure
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tourist arrivals from Australia and New Zealand have almost returned to pre-pandemic levels, Taiwan’s tourism administration said on Saturday (Oct. 5). Taiwan recorded 54,421 tourist arrivals from Australia and New Zealand between January and May, representing just under 97% of the figure for the same period in 2019, the tourism administration said in a press release. The administration said tourist numbers from the two countries had shown steady growth month on month in that period. The tourism administration said it had promoted travel to Taiwan in Australia and New Zealand in September via collaborations with government agencies and businesses. “Three events were held in Melbourne, Brisbane, and Auckland and drew significant interest from local industry participants from Australia and New Zealand,” the release said. Taiwan renewed its tourism branding at the end of August, changing the slogan from “Taiwan Touch Your Heart” to “Taiwan Waves of Wonder.” The bureau said the new campaign aims to “accelerate bilateral exchanges and ignite a surge in visitors to Taiwan.” According to Taiwan government statistics, there were over 3.24 million tourists in Taiwan between January and May. |
