‘Dead Talents Society’ shortlisted for Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival

Awards show breaks own record with over 700 submissions
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Director John Hsu’s (徐漢強) “Dead Talents Society” was shortlisted for the 61st Golden Horse Awards with 11 nominations on Wednesday (Oct. 2). Following the horror comedy film were “Yen and Ai-Lee” and “Bel Ami,” both garnering eight nominations, per CNA. According to a Wednesday press release, the awards broke its own record this year with 718 submissions, 99 narrative features, two animated features, 68 documentaries, 403 live-action short films, 90 documentary short films, and 56 animated short films. Best Actor category was fiercely contested, featuring King Jieh-wen (喜翔), Chang Chen (張震), Yau Hawk-sau (游學修) and more. Best Leading Actress told a similar story, with Patra Au (區嘉雯), Kimi Hsia (夏于喬), and Chung Suet-ying (鍾雪瑩) all vying for number one. Outstanding Taiwanese Filmmaker of the Year went to spray painting artist Li Si-jian (李錫堅), who has over 50 years of set decoration experience. He is known for his work on director Wei Te-sheng’s (魏德聖) “Big,” which tells the story of six children residing in a pediatric oncology unit. Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival will be held from Nov. 7-24. All nominated films will be screened at the festival starting Nov. 7. |
