| Lee Kai-fu says new AI applications coming for automation and customer support
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Hon Hai Research Institute (Foxconn) Advisor Lee Kai-fu (李開復) said large language models are accelerating the beginning of the “AI 2.0” era on Tuesday (July 23). According to a press release, Foxconn held its AI Next Forum on Tuesday to celebrate the company’s 50th anniversary. The event attracted many domestic and foreign AI experts, with over 900 attendees. In his speech, Lee said while “AI 1.0” involved applying AI to a specific task, the capabilities of large language models are driving the generative AI revolution in new directions, per CNA. This is accelerating the advent of AI 2.0, he said. “AI 2.0 has passed the classic Turing test and is rapidly advancing toward artificial general intelligence with high IQ, becoming the most important productivity enhancement tool in human history,” Lee explained. “This will usher in the era of AI assistants, fundamentally changing user interfaces and business models, and creating value 10 times greater than that of the mobile Internet era.” Looking ahead to AI 2.0 applications, Lee said they could be used for automation, content generation, and customer service. Hon Hai Research Institute researcher Liao I-bin (廖宜斌) said the institute has dedicated significant manpower to the AI and autonomous vehicle fields.
