Austrian art collective unveils immersive installations in Taiwan debut
奧地利藝術團隊首次在台灣推出沉浸式裝置藝術
TAICHUNG (Taiwan News) – The Vienna-based design collective Numen/For Use has made its Taiwan debut at CMP Inspiration, presenting two significant, Taichung-exclusive immersive installations.
Their 6-meter-tall "Net Taichung" piece invites visitors into a poetic, body-centric maze, promising a summer of spatial and imaginative exploration. “Net and String Taichung” features interconnected installations that visitors are encouraged to engage with by walking, climbing, and even crawling. This transforms the body from a passive observer into a crucial element shaping the spatial experience. Christoph Katzler, co-founder of Numen/For Use and the exhibition's curator, emphasized the seamless integration of the two pieces. "This creation is not just about displaying two works, it is about fusing them into a continuous sensory journey.” He envisions a childlike joy for all visitors as they step into a space where reality and illusion intertwine, redefining the interaction between people and their environment. He noted that this is the team's largest spatial installation to date and was a challenging endeavor within the museum's precise indoor confines. “Net Taichung,” an unprecedented 6-meter inflatable structure, acts as a soft, traversable aerial poem. Its design draws inspiration from the museum's pulsing entrance lines, resembling undulating hills. In contrast, “String Taichung,” a self-supporting, walkable social sculpture, presents a paradoxical sense of vastness and void. Inspired by the slanted gridded roof of CMP Inspiration, taut ropes create a three-dimensional linear space in the basement. The exhibition is on view until Nov. 2 and encourages hands-on participation, blurring age distinctions and offering a shared sensory space. |
